The Hekman Library has been a depository for United States federal documents since 1967 and for Michigan state documents since 2003.
The library collects documents of many types and in many formats: paper, online, maps, CD-Rom, DVD-Rom, and microfiche. The library's online catalog contains records for documents in both physical and electronic formats.
In addition, the library provides access to both subscription and free databases that index government documents. The Federal Digital System (fdsys) is a good place to start if you want to search for official publications from all three brances of the Federal Government. It is free on the web. (NOTE: It will be replaced on Dec. 14, 2018, by www.govinfo.gov).
The US Government Printing Office keeps America informed on the three branches of the Federal Government. GPO works with the library community to provide free, open, and permanent access to the documents of our democracy.
