Country Studies
African Development Indicators, HC800. A1 A356 Ref. Provides a detailed collection of development data on Africa in one volume. Presents data from 53 African countries and 5 regional country groups, arranged in separate tables or matrices for more than 500 indicators of development. A portion of this data is available at the World Bank web site.
Background Notes is a series of short, factual pamphlets written by officers in the Department of State's geographical bureaus, including information on the country's land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, foreign relations, and United States policy.
Country Studies presents a description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of countries throughout the world." Not all countries are covered.
Country Profiles by the Economist Intelligence Unit are available in Academic OneFile. They are all cataloged in WebCat with a link directly to the report. Just type in Ghana in WebCat, for example, and follow the path.
Historical Dictionaries are available for many countries throughout the world.
One example is the Historical Dictionary of Turkey, DR436 .H47 Reference. 2009. Just type in the words historical dictionary and the name of your country in the Library Catalog, selecting Title from the drop down menu. Each will have its own call number and all are in the Reference area on the main floor (and so cannot be checked out).
