Quickly View Account Status

The top right corner of your account page gives a quick summary of your account's status. 

Look for these Links on an Item's Record

Temporary Lists

Logging In

Calvin College students/faculty/staff: login to My Account using your Calvin username and password. 

Calvin Seminary students/faculty/staff: login using your Seminary ID barcode number as BOTH username and password. Use the ENTIRE 14-digit number including leading and trailing zeros. 

Guests: login using your Guest User card barcode number as BOTH username and password. Include leading zeros. 

Renewing Library Items

Books checked out from the Hekman Library are checked out for two weeks at a time. To renew a book for another two-week period, log in to your account, view your "Items Currently Checked Out," and select the items you would like to be renewed. However, if a book is on hold for another person, you may not be able to renew it.

Placing Holds

To place a hold, click on the "Place Hold" link to the right of the item's listing in the search results. There is also a link to place a hold on the item's record. 

A hold ensures that you are the next person in line to check out the book (unless, of course, the book has multiple holds on it already). Use holds when a book you need is currently checked out, and you would like it next. When the person using it returns it (which should be within two weeks), you will be notified via email that the book is being held for you at the circulation desk on the 2nd floor. 

If an item you want is checked out, and you NEED it within the next few days, use MeLCat to locate and request the item (more info). The Hekman Library no longer offers the recall of books for general users. 

  • Note: Holds are limited to 5 items at a time. Please do not use the holds service to get the library staff to find and gather all your books for you; holds are only pulled once a day and staff is limited. 

Creating Lists

Lists are a useful feature to use alongside the library catalog when you are logged into your account. Once you've created a list in your account (Click on the My Lists tab), you can add items from the catalog quickly and easily using the links to the right of the item's record (just underneath Place Hold). This way, you can save and organize items from the Library Catalog over time. 

From your list page (in your account), you can modify your list, print the list (with call numbers), or share the list with others via email or RSS feed.
