Where to Start

Many historians depend on primary sources to get a fuller understanding of the context of a particular event or era. These sources typically provide firsthand accounts or personal testimony.  Examples include: photographs, memoirs, letters, diaries, newspaper articles from the time of the event, government documents, or oral histories.
